THINGS I LEARNED AT MY INTERNSHIP
During my internship I wrote a plethora of Thank You notes to Friends of the Englert, Mission Creek, and the Strengthen, Grow, Evolve Campaign. I learned what language is appropriate for thank you notes and also how important they are to donors.
The Strengthen, Grow, Evolve campaign is led by the Englert Theater and FilmScene in an effort to make Iowa City the "Greatest Small City for the Arts." As an intern, I helped the campaign by sending out emails for the SGE launch event, sending thank you emails, and creating lists of prospects.
Network for Good is the donor management system utilized by the Englert Theater. Through hands-on experience, I learned how to work within the database by posting donations and updating donor information. Donor management systems are critical to the success of all nonprofit organizations.
Mission Creek Festival is the Englert's spring festival. I contributed to the festival by writing thank you notes to Friends of Mission Creek. I also volunteered at the Lit Walk. This intimate festival allowed me to see how big events can help an organization grow.
Stages is the Englert's playbill. This playbill has ads from community businesses. I helped the playbill by reaching out to community partners to buy ads within the playbill. This project helped me learn more about prospect research and gave me ideas for simple ways to raise money for an organization.
Overall, this internship was a great first experience for me into the world of development in nonprofit organizations. My love of fundraising was proved even further through this internship.
